How to measure a child's height correctly
Height is the main parameter for determining children's clothing sizes. For an accurate result, you will need a measuring tape or a stadiometer.
For babies (up to 1-1.5 years). Lay the child on a flat surface. Measure the distance from the top of the head to the heels. The child's legs should be straight.
For children who can already stand. Stand the child with their back against a wall without shoes. The heels, buttocks, shoulder blades, and back of the head should touch the wall. Make a mark at the level of the top of the head and measure the distance from the floor to the mark.
What do different children's size standards mean?
- Europe and Ukraine (EU/UA) — the simplest and most understandable system. The size corresponds to the child's height in centimeters (from 50 to 164 cm). The step between sizes is usually 6 cm.
- USA (US) — up to 2 years, sizes are indicated in months (e.g., 3-6M, 12M). From 2 to 4 years, the letter T (Toddler) is used, for example, 2T or 3T. Then come numerical sizes (5, 6, 7, etc.), which approximately correspond to the child's age, but it's better to rely on height.
- United Kingdom (UK) — sizes are marked by age (e.g., 3-6 Months or 2-3 Years).
Why is it better to rely on height rather than age?
Age labeling (e.g., "2-3 Years") is just a guideline. Children of the same age can differ in height by 10-15 cm, so clothing selected strictly by age is often either too small or too large. The most accurate way is to measure the child's height and use this exact value to select the size, considering age only as additional reference information.
If the child grows quickly, it's also worth considering a margin: for outerwear (jackets, overalls), you can take a size 1 step (6 cm) larger, especially if you plan to wear the clothes for several seasons or over a warm sweater.

How to determine the clothing size if the child's height is between two values in the table?
Round up to the larger size from the nearest two — especially if you plan to wear the item for more than one season. If the clothes are needed "here and now" (for example, for a holiday), you can choose a more accurate smaller size.
Is the clothing size the same for boys and girls?
At an early age (up to 2-3 years), size grids are mostly unified and based solely on height. From 4-5 years, some brands begin to take body shape differences into account, but the size step by height remains a common reference for both genders.
Why does the clothing size of the same brand differ for various types of items?
Pants, t-shirts, and jackets of the same size may fit differently because the cut and movement allowance differ for each type of clothing. For outerwear, it is often recommended to take one size larger to fit a sweater or cardigan underneath.
Should I buy clothes "for growth"?
A moderate margin (one size step) is a normal practice, especially for outerwear and shoes. But clothing that is too large prevents the child from moving and can be dangerous (too long sleeves, pant legs dragging on the ground). The optimal margin is no more than 1-2 sizes.
